Elvis Presley G.I. Blues 1960 9 Ft. Original Theater Standee Display - This is an original 1960 theater standee display for the Elvis Presley film "G.I. Blues". The piece was acquired approximately 30 years from a theater in Pennsylvania which was being demolished, and was rescued and lightly restored by a local artist. The standee measures 9 feet tall and 4 feet wide, is made of wood and comes apart in three pieces. According to our seller, per a conversation with Laura Wooley from Antiques Roadshow, there are very few of these standees still in existance for two main reasons: The standees were placed outside of the theater near the curb to attract movie goers. Since the film was released in the winter on November 4, 1960, the standees would have been outside in the weather in the snow, rain and cold. Another reason is that after the movie, young girls would try to tear a piece of the standee off so that they could go home with a small momento of Elvis. This standee is complete, and is in very good, well preserved condition.
