664. Original Barbara Eden signature first season "Jeannie" bottle from I Dream of Jeannie. (NBC-TV, 1965-70) When astronaut Captain Tony Nelson lands far from his planned recovery area near a deserted island, he comes upon a strange bottle that rolls by itself. He then removes the stopper and smoke starts shooting out and a blonde female genie appears kissing Tony on the lips, thus marking the beginning of I Dream of Jeannie, certainly one of the best loved TV series of the 1960s. This stylized ornamental bottle of green smoked glass features a bulbous base with elliptical teardrop indentation design along the bottle's topper and base. Commonly known as the "Jeannie bottle, it was actually based on a Jim Beam Christmas bourbon decanter marketed exclusively in 1964. A small number of these were purchased by the I Dream of Jeannie producers, given to the Screen Gems studio artisans who painted the bottle with a gold design of fig leaves and vines and applied a fine wash of mint green to soften the gold and appear opaque, muting the reflection of the gold leaf to create the look of a 2,000 year old bottle. The art department applied the misty overlay to compensate for the on-screen reflection and provide an aged, worn appearance. This design was used only for the first season which was shot in black & white. Measures 14 in. tall. This bottle was acquired from an ad agency executive from Screen Gems and not heavily handled over the years. Comes with a letter of authenticity from noted television artifact authority, James Comisar. A fantastic and instantly-recognizable relic from this landmark 1960s TV series.
