A poster from the New York Central Railroad featuring West Point Military Academy on the Hudson River. The artist is none other than Leslie Ragan, who did loads of artwork for the New York Central in the post WWII ear. It measures 26" by 40". It could have a larger border that the pine frame is hiding. The scene is from the west side of the Hudson and the "4 track" east side has a passenger train. Because it has a General Motors E7 diesel locomotive on the bottom in Lightening Stripe paint it probably dates to the 1946-1949 era. Sorry about the poor quality photos, it's better than the pics show. The reverse of the frame just shows brown paper backing. This poster is from the Dale Flansburg collection. Dale has quite a bit of New York Central Railroad memorabilia and this poster and other items were on display in his "museum" on Route 9G in South Germantown, New York for years.
August 25 - I have received a few requests for more information on this poster: condition, roll to ship, etc - (1) I am adding 6 additional photos that I took yesterday. (2) I see no margin tears, there is some wave to the paper on the margins. I see some spotting in the sky field. There may be some creasing. (3) It does not look like it has been linen mounted or signs that it was mounted on some other material. I could be wrong about this. (4) I see no repairs.
I spoke with my partner, who does the shipping and he said he could remove it from the frame and roll to ship IF condition warrants this treatment. If removed from the frame, it is at the buyers risk. We have always tried to help with issues like this and we do in-house shipping. Any extra effort required will be with the understanding that there will be a delay in handling & shipping.
