China. Of cylindrical form, the exterior well carved in varying levels of relief depicting the lavishly dressed Er Qiao, one lying on an intricately carved daybed beside a large lotus arrangement, the other seated holding a book.
Provenance: Sotheby's London, Important Chinese Art, November 7th, 2018, lot 134, bought in at an estimate of 10/15,000 pounds sterling.
Condition: Superb condition with the natural patina of a rich reddish-brown color. Minor nicks and dents here and there. Several fine, natural age cracks.

The reverse with a twenty-character excerpt from Lu Qingzi's poem, denoting the astonishing beauty of the Qiao sisters, followed by the characters Tianru Nianweng (an old man of Heaven's age) and signed Zifan.
