Lot 0021
A Very rare ancient vessel from Central Asia, Indus Valley, Harappan / Mohenjo-Daro civilization, ca. 2700 to 2000 BCE. A tall terracotta vessel with a rounded base, teardrop shaped body, and a petite flared rim. The exterior displays a decorative register of diagonal linear designs in larger diamond-shaped superstructures, with solid bands of pigment bordering the top and bottom of the geometric motif. The inside of the rim boasts a similar black color scheme, though the interior of the vessel itself is unadorned. A lovely example of some of the earliest styles of pottery produced in the Indus Valley. The vessel measures 10 inches tall x 8.75 inches wide. Provenance: Hesse Galleries , NY, Dr Brian Healy collection, NY.
