Early Royal Russian Silver Girdle
A rare silver belt or girdle, a Russian court piece, 17th century.Likely for military and parade dress, with extensive cut and niello work,at one end the figure of a courtly soldier, the other of a family crest. The many rectangular silver panel links encompass its original leather strap, (all intact but imagined rather fragile), the backs plain with multi hall marks, those fronts in fully raised relief work. This rarity is complete and all original, including its end attachment chain, the piece is very heavy, hand tooled and crafted of top grade silver, a talented silversmith's work and likely made early in that century, certainly it is unique. It's length is 31.5" and approx. 1 7/8" X 1 1/4" link size.
