19th C. Kashmir Shawl, India, wool and silk: 10'0'' x 4'1'' (305 x 124 cm). "Each of the seven large boteh were tapestry-twill woven and then joined together vertically one by one while they were still on the loom. The long center panel was woven in two sections that were joined together horizontally after they were removed from the loom. The silk warp side borders were then added, as was the narrow plain red border at the top and bottom of the shawl." Literature: Parviz Nemati, Shawls of the East, From Kerman to Kashmir, New York, 2003. This shawl is featured on pages 194-195.
