The Birds of America was the publication of America's most famous naturalist John James Audubon. Published in London over eleven years 1827-1838 it contains 435 massive hand colored aquatint engravings of the birds that are in North America. His original drawings are in the New York Historical Society, however, it was these engravings that Audubon was most interested in. In total about 200 sets were produced, many have been broken and this is one plate from the four volume set.
