Description
This over-modelled skull is from the Middle Sepik area of Papua New Guinea, and comprises human skull decorated with hair, cowrie shells, grey clay and a range of white and yellow pigments. The over modelling of the skulls of men, women and children was once a common practice for both the Iatmul and the Sawos people, and were often of identifiable ancestors although heads taken in raids sometimes received similar treatment.H= 26cm
Condition
Good vintage condition. Some hair are loose.
