For your consideration is this rare 1868 first edition of "The Life of Ulysses S. Grant", by Hon. J.T. Headley. This was a special edition book sold only by subscription with very few copies still remaining. The book tells the thrilling true tail of our General-In-Chief and later President of these United States with excellent illustrations. The book was published by E.B. Treat & Co., Publishers 654 Broadway New York along with C.W. Lilley Chicago, ILL. A.L. Talcott, Puttsburg, PA., A.H. Hubbard Philadelphia, PA., A. Roman & Co. San Francisco, CAL. Printed by The Trow & Smith Book Manufacturing Company, New York. The book shows the original cloth binding with gilt decoration on the spine and cover, though the gilding on the cover is mostly rubbed off. The cover does show an excellent pressed portrait of General Ulysses S. Grant "framed in filigree. The spine is marked in gilt lettering and shows the U.S. Eagle. The book pages show moderate to heavy foxing and signs of being stored in damp conditions, but the book is in good condition over all for its 150 years. Measures 8 3/8"L x 5 5/8"W x 1 5/8" Thick.
