Sumatra or Indo Malay Peninsula 19th Century A wonderful Jawa Demam Keris carved from Wood Characteristically abstract form with an inclined bird head and a Anthropomorphic Body. Jawa Demam represents a deity that is half bird and half human, most likely a Garuda, depicted in a squatting position and holding its sides as if shivering in the cold. Interestingly, the word Demam literally means fever in Bahasa. Provenance: Ex- private collection of Ami Brown. Mr. Brown was the owner of the Coca Cola franchise in Israel and amassed a huge and very fine collection of Indonesian Kris's as well as other ethnographic and tribal arts. His collection numbered more than 3000 pieces with many on display during his life in the Ein Harod Museum of Art.
