George Armfield (1808-1893) British
'Terriers', depicting three different coloured terrier dogs waiting by a mouse hole in a field, signed lower left 'G. Armfield', oil on canvas, within a giltwood frame, 24 cm x 35 cm.
Known to be one of the many Victorian artists to paint animals, he is one of few who dedicated his art in depicting dogs, mainly terriers, and dead game. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1840-1862 and many of his small dog pictures often were passed of as by Landseer.
