Circa early 18th cent., Spanish Colonial, oil on canvas in gilt wood frame depicting the Virgin of Rosario (N.S del Rosario) surrounded by a host of angels and four scenes with her apparitions. The Virgin is based upon a specific sculpture with fine details of pearls and lace on her robe, detailed embroidery on her mantle and gilt crown. Below the three angels that hold her aloft are two angels holding a rosary below a Latin inscribed ribbon. The scenes of her apparitions are finely framed in gold ovals, each with a Latin inscription within, canvas is 42.5 x 35.5 in., frame is 45.75 x 38.75 in.

Condition

Condition: appears that the original canvas was cut and relined on to a now old canvas with numerous patches on the back; visible areas of inpainting correspond to these areas
