Oil enamels on canvas, mounted on board. Purvis Young was a story teller. His visual language tells the tale of life in the city, of struggle and redemption. Born to a Bahamian mother, Young grew up in Miami's Overtown, where he witnessed the struggle to create a better life every day. Walking the streets of his hometown, Young would gather materials from construction sites to create his art. People moving, protests in the streets, pregnant ladies, jazz musicians, saints and angels were all recurring themes in his oeuvre. Young's work is now in over 60 museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, NY, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Donated by: New River Fine Art.

Condition is consistent with the artist's oeuvre. Youn's work typically contains irregularities due to the found materials he used to create his art.
