.58 1861 Springfield Percussion Rifle

Lot 0297
1861 U.S. Springfield percussion rifle in .58 caliber. Heavily used by the Union army during the Civil War, the 1861 Springfield was the last of the percussion long arms designed and issued to the United States Army. This example looks to be period correct and marked properly although void of any cartouche markings on the stock. Included is a "U.S." marked bayonet. The barrel exhibits a dark patina with the exception of the muzzle end likely from contact with the bayonet which is included. Correct rear graduated sight. Lock plate shows scattered and dark oxidation spots with legible "U.S.SPRINGFIELD" "1861" and U.S. Eagle emblem between the hammer and nipple. The butt plate exhibits a dark patina and is properly marked "US". The three barrel bands are marked "U". The stock is in nice condition although void of any markings as it may have been sanded. The ramrod looks to be correct. The action operates as expected. CLASS: ANTIQUE NO FFL REQUIRED, OVERSIZED SHIPPING ITEM
