A Roman ceramic lamp with Dionysus within the discus, c. 3rd Century AD, the youthful god is depicted nude, with a chlamys clasped at the shoulder, holding a thyrsos in his left hand and a bunch of grapes in his right, ovolo border around the shoulder. On base, concentric circles with stylized floral additions in outer ring, hatched band on the underside of the spout. L: 4 1/3 in (10.9cm). Light deposits, signs of use in antiquity. Ex French collection; Ex Royal Athena Galleries, New York.
