A Babe Ruth Brooklyn Dodgers coaching uniform worn during the 1938 season. The gray jersey features "Dodgers" arching across the chest in blue lettering and a restored number 35 on the back (previously number 52). Embroidered to the interior collar "Babe Ruth" in red stitching, just below a Spalding label. The left sleeve displays its original 1939 World's Fair patch. Together with a pair of gray pants with a "Spalding/ 44" label to the interior waistband and embroidered "Babe Ruth" in red stitching. Accompanied by a blue leather belt.
Ruth, known to many as the “Sultan of Swat” and “The Great Bambino,” was quite arguably the greatest baseball player of all time, earning himself a plethora of nicknames. Debuting in 1914 for the Boston Red Sox, Ruth was a pitcher more than a hitter early on in his career. From 1914 to 1919, as a member of the Red Sox, Ruth started 143 games and compiled a win-loss record of 89-46 with an earned run average of 2.19, which ranks 5th all time in Red Sox history. The controversial trade of Ruth to the Yankees in 1920 helped the Yankees to excel and caused the Red Sox to fall into a drought, a drought that later on became known as “The Curse of the Bambino.” In Ruth’s 15-year career as a New York Yankee, he led the team to seven World Series appearances and four titles. He ranks third in Major League Baseball history with 714 home runs. Ruth hit 40 or more home runs in the regular season 11 times in his career and hit 50 or more home runs in the regular season four times in his career, including 60 home runs in 1927. He was a 12-time American League home run leader. Once his 22-year playing career came to an end, in 1935, Ruth joined the Brooklyn Dodgers as a first base coach in June 1938. It was Ruth's final official Major League season. Accompanied by letter of authenticity from Julien's Auctions and Bob Case.
