France: brass "Rechenpfennig" by Johann Georg Holtzhey (1729-1808), ND (circa. 1749-1774); size (oval): 19.5mm; weight: 0.8g; coin alignment. Obverse depicts three-masted ship with German legend "Durch Gluck und Kunst" ('By Luck and Art') and the letters "EE" and "PF" on either side of the ship; medallist's initials "I G H" in exergue. On reverse right-facing bust of Louis XV and legend around "LVD XV•D• | •G•FR•ET•N•REX". The piece's date is estimated between the time Holtzhey took over his father's workshop in Amsterdam and the year Louis XV died. Holtzhey is listed in Forrer v.2 p.536-537 although Forrer's earlier references to him appear to have erronious birth and death dates (1695-1760) which preceed hs father Martin's birthdate (1697).
