Yitzhak Leib Peretz - Gleichnisse/Parables, with illustrations by Jakob Steinhardt, published by Verlag fur Judsiche Kunst und Kultur & printed by Fritz Gurlitt, Berlin, 1920; 90 pages. The book is an illustrated compilation of 8 short stories by the noted Polish-Jewish author and playwright, translated into German from the original Yiddish by the Russian-Jewish literary historian Alexander Eliasberg; each story is accompanied by a lithographic illustration by the German-Israeli expressionist painter/printmaker Jakob Steinhardt (8 in total + cover picture) & all printed/produced on artistic handmade(?) paper. The stories include: "Zwei Wege," "Der Glasscherben," "Der Kolonist," "Die vierfarbige Laterne aund die vier kleinen Hunde," "Vom Irren in der Wüste," "Messias Zeiten," "Ein Chanukkatraum," and "Die Schwalben". The book is complete and the pages intact: there are signs of spillage on the cover & inside pages though phyically they are intact and undamaged (the title page is missing a swatch from the lower center - this seems to be a production flaw and not damage on the part of a reader); the cover is splitting along the spine and the surface bears liquid damage though the boards themselves are intact.
