Lot 0436
**Originally Listed At $600**

Pre-Columbian, south coast of Peru, Paracas culture, Callango style, ca. 500 to 100 BCE. A handsome incised, painted, and burnished ceramic bowl with a low, flaring form. The exterior is decorated with stylized geometric patterns in three groups - two that resemble burial mounds, one that resembles zoomorphic eyes. The interior has a dotted pattern. Both are painted with mineral pigments mixed with plant resin that was applied post-firing to the surface. The hardened resin created a shiny surface characteristic of Paracas ceramics. Size: 7" W x 2.3" H (17.8 cm x 5.8 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-collection of Dr Saul Tuttman, New York, USA
