Pre-Columbian, north coast of Peru, Sican / Lambayeque culture, ca. 750 to 1350 CE. A beautiful round pectoral made from a broad, thick ring of woven camelid fiber and decorated with a sequence of colorful fish inside of white diamond forms, made from shell seed beads. Fish iconography connects this with one of the most important aspects of Sican life, gathering resources from the sea. The Sican Deity was often depicted alongside symbols of the ocean. Made to be buried, worn by a deceased individual. Size: 7.9" W x 8.05" H (20.1 cm x 20.4 cm)
