Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A tall wooden staff with a delightful series of openwork and relief carvings in its upper area, and a long, smooth, tapered handle, made to be carried during processions and rituals. At the top are two carved temples, each of which projects outward and features stepped motifs reminiscent of pyramids. Two anthropomorphic but abstract figures stand on either side of the lower steps; below a band of repeated relief pyramid/wave patterns is another temple tier with two similar anthropomorphic figures. Size: 2.5" W x 35.5" H (6.4 cm x 90.2 cm); 36.75" H (93.3 cm) on included custom stand.
