Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A wonderful pair of hand-built pottery vessels in the forms of adorable llamas, each with cream-slipped surfaces, four conical legs, a petite tail, an ovoid body with a narrow spout on top, and a slender head. The body of the smaller llama features a solid brown panel on one side as well as brown stippling on the other, and that of the larger llama displays horizontal stripes and larger stippling dots. Both heads are composed of perky ears, thick snouts, and discoid eyes. A fabulous ensemble of ancient Chancay zoomorphic artistry! Size of largest (stripes and stippling): 5.6" L x 2.2" W x 2.75" H (14.2 cm x 5.6 cm x 7 cm).

Provenance: ex-private Florida, USA collection; ex-private California, USA collection
