Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Teotihuacan culture, ca. 3rd to 7th century CE. A fine seated figure, carved from pale-brown stone, depicted seated with a small bowl held in the lap. The figure boasts broad shoulders, stocky arms decorated with lobed arm bands held atop bent knees, a neck strap with bifurcated tassels in front of the chest, and a rigid posture with an incised spine. The triangular head boasts narrow coffee-bean-shaped eyes, a bulbous nose above full lips, and slanted ears, all beneath a three-lobed headdress. The bowl in the lap was perhaps used to hold votive offerings. Size: 3.6" W x 5.875" H (9.1 cm x 14.9 cm).
