Native American, southwestern United States, Four Corners region, Southern Colorado Plateau, Pueblo I / Pueblo II (Anasazi) period, ca. 1100 to 1200 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel with a round but stable base, a bulbous body with a pair of lateral protrusions flanking the base of the tall neck, a rounded back side, and an arching strap handle joining neck to back. The exterior displays an intricate register of stippled and checkerboard motifs on the body, additional stippling on the neck and rim, and frets on the handle, all in black mineral pigment atop the smooth white ground. Size: 4.375" L x 3.3" W x 4.3" H (11.1 cm x 8.4 cm x 10.9 cm).

Provenance: private New Jersey, USA collection, acquired in 2007; ex-Mark Brady collection, Show Low, Arizona, USA, found on private land
