West Africa, Ivory Coast, Senufo peoples, ca. first half of the 20th century CE. A fine wooden heddle pulley with a wide bifurcated body, rounded shoulders, and a short neck with a pierced suspension hole which doubles as the handle. Atop the handle is the head of an abstract bird with laterally-bulging eyes, a hanging beak, and a short crest with a pair of incised striations on either side. Incised linear details are presented along both sides of the body, and fabulous dark-brown patina envelops the entire composition. Size: 3.125" W x 6.3" H (7.9 cm x 16 cm); 7.3" H (18.5 cm) on included custom stand.
