**Originally Listed At $500**

Western Europe, Spain, reign of Charles II, ca. 1661 to 1700 CE. A nice example of an oblong silver eight real, with a design of shields and crosses, made in Seville, Spain. This is placed into a modern 14K gold setting to be worn as a pendant. The silver real was the currency of the Spanish colonies in the New World and the Philippines, and was a truly international standard coin. These coins were cut from a silver bar and struck with a hammer onto a coin die, so that they were accurate in weight but often, as here, had irregular shapes and artwork. Size of pendant: 1.6" W (4.1 cm)

Provenance: private Hagar collection, St. Louis, Missouri, USA
