Carlos Merida (Guatemalan, 1891-1985) attributed: Abstract Composition, acrylic on canvas, signed bottom left, with some repairs/retouching, painted on this canvas tacked to a primitive stretcher unframed. Carlos Merida was on the forefront of synthesizing formal, European artistic ideas with Latin American themes. Although a part of the Mexican Muralism movement, he favored abstract compositions over the figurative, narrative murals traditionally found in Latin American Art.
