This lot consists of an unframed oil painting on loose canvas, done in the expressive style of Vincent Van Gogh (Dutch, 1853-1890). "Vincent 87" is hand-painted at bottom right corner of composition. Image depicts a pair of Victorian style boots, brimming with careful brushwork and creative use of color. This is the perfect example of the vivid, Post-Impressionist style for which Van Gogh is so well respected. This loose canvas measures approximately 17.5" x 20".
Two attachments can be seen en verso. One paper label bears the name and seal of the Musee d'Orsay, with accreditations given to Vincent Van Gogh. A red wax seal can also be noted at right of label.
Vincent Willem van Gogh was a major Post-Impressionist painter. He was a Dutch artist whose work had a far-reaching influence on 20th-century art. His output includes portraits, self portraits, landscapes and still lifes of cypresses, wheat fields and sunflowers. Van Gogh drew as a child but did not paint until his late twenties; he completed many of his best-known works during the last two years of his life. In just over a decade he produced more than 2,100 artworks, including 860 oil paintings and more than 1,300 watercolors, drawings, sketches and prints.
