Description
JAMES PEALE (MARYLAND / PENNSYLVANIA, 1749-1831), ATTRIBUTED, OR SCHOOL OF, MINIATURE PORTRAIT OF A MAN, watercolor, finely-executed, bust-length depiction of a stylish young man in high white stock and dark blue coat, no signature located. Housed in a rose gold case with woven-hair memento visible in aperture verso, the rim bearing engraved inscription "THOMAS WILLIAMSON JONES / JUNE 25th 1788 / JULY 21st 1824". Circa 1812. 2 1/2" x 2 1/8" OA.

Catalogue Note: Thomas Williamson Jones (1788-1824) was raised in Brunswick Co., Virginia, graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1810, studied medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, and practiced medicine in his native Brunswick Co. His papers are now at the University of North Carolina.
