Description
GEORGIAN ENGLISH STERLING SILVER SERVING UTENSILS, LOT OF 17, comprising a set of four tablespoons by Richard Poulden of London with 1825 date mark, a pair of meat forks by William Eley, William Fearn & William Chawner of London with 1808 date mark, a meat fork likely by William Schofield of London with 1823 date mark, a caddy spoon by Thomas Wallis II & Jonathan Hayne with 1814 date mark, a butter knife with worn or no maker's mark and mother-of-pearl/shell handles, a pair of salt spoons with gold-washed bowls by William Eley & William Fearn with 1807 date mark, and six other salt spoons by various makers. Each with two hallmarks of a lion passant for sterling fineness and a King George III or IV duty mark, most with maker's marks and one or two hallmarks of a date mark and a city mark. Total weight including butter knife with shell handle: 20.68 ozt. Late 18th/first quarter 19th century. 3 1/4" to 8 7/8" L.
Very good to excellent overall condition with wear and surface scratches, other imperfections include small dents, nicks, worn bowl tips, and slight bending.
Provenance: From the estate of Commander Buryl and Nelwyn Kay, McLean, VA.
