Very impressive and rare Andrew J. Morse telephone / communications equipment with wood battery box! These were used in locations that had no direct electricity, so battery power was utilized. AJ Morse sold these telephones in conjunction with the Navy Mark V helmets. Their catalogs described them as United States Navy telephone, battery case, fittings for attaching telephone to helmet.
The wood box retains its original finish and looks beautiful. All brass hardware on the outside is present including hinges, cable hook-up and great looking Andrew J Morse & Son ID plate on top. The exterior of the case does some signs of use, but overall it is well taken care of. The case measures 19 inches wide, 13.5 inches deep and 10 inches tall.
The top half of the box does lift up on hinges. Just inside the lid is a pie of paper with a note indicating that new batteries were installed in 1954 and tested in 1955. The equipment in the box all appears in good original condition. Headphones, telephone, cable, brass connection, spare cap and wire are present.
These wood telephone boxes rarely turn up, especially in this complete and nice condition. The photos show a section from a AJ Morse catalog featuring this model along with a Mark V helmet. Great piece for display along with a helmet!
