Important American Rococo Revival Rosewood and Marble-Top Etagere, Attributed to J. H. Belter, New York

mid-19th century, the upper section with a central mirror adorned by an elaborate pierced and carved crest with a putto holding a bow and arrow amidst a spray of floral vines and terminating in seahorses at each end, and flanked by shaped graduated shelves on each side, supported by carved dolphin standards, the base with a conforming white marble top above a central drawer and mirrored cabinet door, with open shelves to each side and supported by carved swan legs.

Provenance: The Estate of Donald J. Hurst, Waterloo, Iowa.

Condition

In overall fine condition. No sign of damage. The marble is a professionally cut replacement. The mirrors are likely replaced as well. Retains a rich, dark finish with a very pleasing patina.
