third quarter 19th century, New York, the marquetry-inlaid oval top opening to reveal a storage well, the scalloped apron with floral, scroll and leaf carving, raised on cabriole legs of joined C-scroll form with foliate carving extending from the knees, the stretchers centered by a finial.
h. 28-1/2", w. 26", d. 19"
Provenance: The Estate of Donald J. Hurst, Waterloo, Iowa.
Condition
In overall very good condition. The piece is sturdy and stable with no movement observed in the legs or
stretchers.
The top has been refinished and exhibits an area of repair to the marquetry veneer.
There is a veneer loss to the top edge of the apron, visible when the lid is opened, about 1" x 3/4" x 5/8".
The carving exhibits evidence that loose elements have been re-glued. There are some customary flakes
to the edges of carved surfaces.
There may have been an additional point or tip on top of the finial.
