George Charles Aid (NC/IL, 1872-1938), Still Life with Apples

oil on panel, signed at lower right, atelier stamp to the verso with the date 1952, presented in a later gilt frame.
SS 9 x 5.25 in.; DOA 15.25 x 11.5 in.
A noted society portraitist, George Charles Aid began his art studies at the School of Fine Art in St. Louis. In 1899 he left for France, where he continued his studies first at the Acad̩mie Julian and then at the Acad̩mie de la Grande Chaumi̬re. Following WWI, he and his wife returned from the continent and settled in the artist colony of Tryon, North Carolina.
