Description
Stokely Webster (1912-2001) American. View from the Terrace; French Riviera (1973). Oil on canvas. 24 x 30 in. Signed and dated lower left: S. Webster 73-11-11. Stokely Webster was born in Evanston, Illinois in 1912. He traveled to Paris with his family, where he was inspired by the French Impressionists and Post-Impressionists. He returned to America in 1924, and as a young man dedicated the next ten years to educating himself through a succession of art-school courses, studying architecture at Yale. In 1936 he studied for six months with Robert Henri's disciple Wayman Adams. The 1960s & 70s saw him creating both landscapes and figural studies and exhibiting his work internationally in many salons and galleries.

Minor craquelure. Minor paint loss upper center. Otherwise Good condition consistent with age.
