Description

Antique sailor carved scrimshaw style primitive, coconut drinking vessel, cup or container. Lovingly elaborated during the long hours in the sea, it was a traditional gift or memento for friend or family member left at the shore. It is carved and polished coconut shell, lavishly decorated with a blooming rose, two different exotic trees, and a nature morte group of barrel, pitcher and decanter, from which is easy to infer the purpose of the vessel - drinking cup for something possibly stronger then water, such as rum or whiskey.Authentic circa mid. 18th century maritime antique from New England, coastal Massachusetts / Road Island. Of course is absolutely unique.

Measurements: Approximately 4" diameter
