Lot 0017

World War One, US Lafayette Escadrille pilot Ted Parsons group (6pc). Edwin C. Parsons was one of the original 38 members of the Escadrille, and the author of "Flying with the Lafayette Escadrille." This lot includes correspondence with Dr. Sterling Kleiser of Lebanon, PA--a friend and aviation historian, notably: (1) two page handwritten note from Parsons to Kleiser dated January 15, 1963; (1) full page typed letter, signed, on Lafayette Escadrille N. 124 Society letterhead to Kleiser dated 29 January 1963. Of particular interest is the following comment: "Strange about no word from Frank Dugan, But I'm not too surprised about Thenault's error about Billy Dugan. While privately, I never held Thenault in very high esteem, I always got along with him, but there were times when I thought he didn't know very much about his own squadron and really cared less. Fortunately, we had two other fine officers, de Laage and Verdier-Fauverty, plus Bill Thaw, who took up the slack." This lot also includes (1) "Roster of the L'Escadrille Lafayette Flying Corps Association, December 10, 1957; (1) Large multi-page color "First Reunion Airshow Honoring the Lafayette Escadrille, Lafayette Flying Corps, French Foreign Legion" at the W.K. Kellogg Regional Airfield, Battle Creek, Michigan, August 18 and 19th, 1962" (4to, 16pp); (1) "Official Program of the First Reunion Airshow (4pp); (1) one page "Agenda" for the First Reunion Airshow. Lot also includes a copy of a newspaper article profiling Dr. Kleiser and his collection.
