Description
1872 Advice to IRISH Girls in America Nuns Kenmare Ireland Catholic Protestant

Mary’s book ‘Advice to Irish Girls in America’ was her most popular book giving sound practical and moral advice for the massive ways of Irish girls leaving Ireland to get a job as a domestic in England and America. She offered advice about keeping one’s faith and growing in that faith while advancing as a domestic.

“Mary Francis Cusack was among the best-known writers of her period, not only in Ireland and England but also on the continent, in Australia, and in America. The large number and variety of her published works assured a wide and diverse audience, and her practical assistant to the Irish poor endeared her to the Irish Americans in the same measure as it confounded the well-off” (McQuaide).

This 1872 edition includes a decorative embossed front board with a black and white frontispiece of the ‘Church and Convent of the Holy Cross, Kenmare Ireland.”
