This is a very rare old wood sculpture from the Dogon peoples of Mali, West Africa. A Very proud Female Ancestor shown holding a staff, a symbol of rank among the tribe. Carved wood with a well weathered and worn smooth surface with eroded areas, as well as a wonderful form and style. Note the carved necklace, incised coiffure and stylized ears and other facial features, a very interesting and strong example of Dogon Arts. The figure measures 24 inches tall on a custom wooden display stand. Provenance: A Private Paris France Collection.
