Description
WWI era US Army summer weight khaki uniform with 3-piece wool and felt 2nd Army patch with diamond shaped designator stitching below indicating radio antenna operator. Has US and Signal Corps collar disks, Corporal stripes with Signal Corps specialty rate, two overseas chevrons, and discharge stripe. Dated on the inside May 10, 1918. Comes with a set of puttees and breeches (lace-up trousers) and a "Glengarry" British style two-button overseas cap which is named inside and has a unique Signal Corps pin attached to the front. Cap is named inside "Corp. Alvin C. Winant" and has a hand-drawn Signals insignia as well. The US Army Signal Corps in World War I utilized early forms of radio communication when field phone and telegraph wires were cut by enemy forces or destroyed by shelling, and this was a very small group of soldiers making this a very rare uniform. Exhibits honest service wear, soling at the neck and armpits, wear to the insignia, loss of finish on the buttons, and light age discoloration to some of the uniform components. Very Good - Excellent
