An extraordinary Italian sterling silver Kantharos Cup with double handles, by famed silversmith Mabuti for Buccellati, circa 1970. Ornate satyrs and cherubsin deep relief to the central areas, with hand etched detailed throughout. Buccellati silver maker mark to the underside and MI 763 for the silversmith, Mabuti.

The cup is a fine replica of the original ancient Roman Kantharos silver vases and cups found from an excavation in Pompeii. This is a fine example from the important Buccellati series of historic ancient works. Similar current works from this series retail for $60,000 USD, such as the Boscoreale Cup.

Great condition. The base sticks out in the lower margin, but close examination doesn’t reveal any damage. The silver cast is incredibly thick and can't be bent.
