1845 Dante Alighieri Divine Comedy Inferno Vision of Hell & Purgatory Flaxman

“Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.”

― Dante Alighieri, The Divine Comedy

Dante’s “Divine Comedy” is one of the most important and long-lasting works for literature. This rare English edition, translated by H.F. Cary, is Cary’s most famous and important work. In 1814, Cary published his translation on his own, as publishers would not take on the risk. This particular 1845 edition was published by Appleton in New York and supplemented with illustrations by John Flaxman.
