Cast brass has been coated in green enamels with fine brass wire cells to form extensive designs of hanging jewels on both the jars and lids. The designs are very detailed and expertly executed. The exposed brass on the mouth and foot is a nice golden color. The undersides of the lids and bases on the jars is covered in a turquoise enamel.
There is the remnant of an old export paper label on the base of one jar.
7 ¾” (19.7 cm) tall x 6 ¼” (15.9 cm) diameter. Weighs 4 lbs 10.8 oz (2120 g)
There are enamel losses on the underside of one lid. One jar has two concussion marks on the body (see circled areas of photos). The other jar has a concussion mark which is small and hidden by the design but can be felt on the inside. There are a few small losses on the interiors of these jars. There is wear scratching on the metal mouth rings from use. One jar has small white pitting on the outside. The bases show wear.
A nice old matched pair of Chinese cloisonné ginger jars that have a nice weight and look. So much hand work went into their manufacture.
