Lot 0613 Details

Description
A very unusual cast iron & brass ticket validator machine with a fine brass tag on top that says: "RAIL ROAD TICKET DATING PRESS, MAY 23rd 1854 BY BAILEY BUFFALO No. 555". I have never seen anything like it. I do not know how significant the "555" is. It is basically cast iron with some brass interior stamping surfaces. It measures 10" tall and 4 1/2" in diameter and it's mounted on a wooden base. I can get the 2 plates to mush together but don't want to force it open to see more of the guts. This thing is from before the Civil War. See this: https://patents.google.com/patent/US10947 The patent is for sequential ink numbering with fixed wheel for date and incrementing serial numbers. It's heavy!
