Lot 1070 Details

Description
War-date partly-printed D.S., 1p. oblong 8vo., [Boston], June 1, 1779, a treasury loan certificate for fifteen pounds issued by the "State of Massachusetts Bay", due January 1, 1783, with a per year interest of six percent. The certificate bears the canceled signature of treasurer H. Gardner, and the signatures of J. Scollay and Edward Green as members of the "Committee". These notes or debt loan certificates were used by Massachusetts and other states to pay costs incurred during the Revolutionary War. Shows some folds with splits at the junctures repaired on the verso with archival tape, with additional chips to the edges and slight toning. Matted in blue and mounted in a gilt wood frame along with a modern Revolutionary War scene. Very good overall.
