19th century Japanese snuff bottle of flattened form decorated on both sides: one with painted red lacquer scene of a court lady in a garden with her attendant carrying a lute wrapped in cloth, the other with a blue lacquer bird seated among flowering prunus branches. Excellent quality painting, great design, red and blue lacquer geometric designs on shoulders, narrow sides and original stopper. Spurious 2-character Emperor Qianlong mark on red lacquer background on the bottom. Wonderful feel of age to the bottle, beautiful patina, in superb condition.
