Lot 0006 Details

Description
Carte-de-visite (CDV) group of seven views depicting members of the Billings family from Pennsylvania and James Augustus Moser. Identified subjects include “E.C Billings,” “Florence Billings,” “William H.H. Billings,” and “Augustus Moser.”

Shown in uniform are Private William H.H. Billings and Private (James) Augustus Moser. Private Billings served in the 33rd and 54th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was taken as a prisoner of war at High Bridge, Virginia on April 6, 1864 and paroled at Appomattox Court House, Virginia on April 9, 1865. Private Moser served in the 1st Pennsylvania Infantry and the 12th Pennsylvania Cavalry. He is wearing a cavalry jacket and is likely shown with his wife, Salina M. Burrows, whom he married at the end of the war.

The relationship between the Billings family and Augustus Moser is unclear, but given both had ties to Easton, PA, it’s possible they were friends or related.
