Description
  • Title: Japanese Blue/White Igezara Charger c 1900
  • Size: 14 1/8” (38.9 cm) diameter x 1 7/8” (4.8 cm) tall.
  • Additional Information: A very large porcelain charger with a crimped iron edge and blue and white stenciled design of Mount Fuji rising from the plain with a pine tree in the foreground and cranes flying overhead. The stenciling is very detailed. A heavy, large porcelain charger with a crimped edge that has been stenciled with intricate cobalt blue designs. The crimped edge has been painted with iron for strength. The stenciling is an early attempt as there are smudges, lighter areas, and misses. There are stencils on the back of floral sprays. Several cobalt rings circle the base. The foot ring is rounded and unglazed. There are three sager marks on the glazed base. There is an imprinted cartouche on the base with four Japanese characters. MEASUREMENTS 14 1/8” (38.9 cm) diameter x 1 7/8” (4.8 cm) tall. Weighs 4 lbs 7.8 oz (2040 g) CONDITION There are no cracks, or breaks. The charger rings like a bell. There is a rim chip on the iron brown edge. There is a chip on the foot but it may have been a manufacturer’s flaw as there are many pock marks on the clay foot. There are wear scratches on the plate’s surface. It was used. A very large showy charger to add to your blue and white collection. It definitely can be seen from across a room. It fits in with many decors.
