Description
  • Title: Japanese Imari Plate with Cart and Bird Circa 1930
  • Size: 8 5/8” (21.9 cm) diameter x 1” (2.5 cm) high.
  • Additional Information: A colorful, hand painted, elaborate design with panels of a cart and bird. Panels of a flower alternate with panels of a cart and bird. The plate is a little unusual because the bird is painted with pretty pastels and the center of the floral panels have an art deco-included center filled with a soft pastel blue. The well of the plate has a red, cobalt and gold floral design. The outside of the plate has a leaf and ribbon design encircling the base. The plate has a shallow rounded foot and glazed base. There is a three character Japanese mark in iron red on the base. MEASUREMENTS 8 5/8” (21.9 cm) diameter x 1” (2.5 cm) high. Weighs 1 lb 0.6 oz (470 g) CONDITION There are no cracks, chips, or breaks, and the plate rings true. There is one glaze flake on the red of one of the red, blue and light blue floral panels. There is wear to the surface of the plate, especially in the well. Much of the gilding in the central well has worn off. The colorful panels outside the central well show little wear, except to small sections of gilding. A colorful handmade and hand painted work of art that has traditional elements, as well as influences from the time when it was made.
